A friend of mine asked me for some mountaineering book recommendations the other day, here’s my short list:
Savage Arena – Joe Tasker
The White Spider – Heinrich Harrer
Vertical Pleasure – Mick Fowler
Kiss or Kill – Mark Twight
Touching the Void – Joe Simpson
Those have got to be the top five I reckon. You can’t beat sitting at home in the warm reading about other people being cold, so here’s a few more:
Learning to Breathe – Andy Cave
Into Thin Air – Jon Krauker
The Climb – Anatoli Boukreev
The Ascent of Rum Doodle – W.E Bowman (almost made it into the top 5)
The Naked Mountain – Reinhold Messner
South – Ernest Shakleton (not really climbing, but a must read)
There’s probably a few I’ve missed out, I’ll keep thinking. Plenty I haven’t read yet as well, so I better get on to Amazon.
