Classic Climbs and Learn to Lead Course
24.5.2009
Regluar Clients Emma and Helen teamed up for a weekends Rock Climbing on Dartmoor. Both had climbed in various locations before but never on Dartmoor so we decided to head to two classic venues of the moor - Houndtor and Haytor on the first day and the Dewerstone on the second.
It was a fantastic weekend for the weather and we climbed some good routes, with Helen leading two climbs on the second day.

For the first climb we headed up Colonel's Arete which has a grade of Very Difficult (VD) and is about 130' high. We climbed it in short pitches (sections) to avoid rope drag and to keep an eye on each other. Here's Emma Climbing onto the ledge about halfway. View

Helen was keen for a go on the sharp end of the rope, so we set up a climb so Ben could dangle on a rope whilst Helen placed her own gear on a couple of good routes tucked away out of sight of the crowds. View |

One of the tallest and most impressive parts of the Dewerstone ends in a Pinnacle which creates a good chimney to climb up. A great climb to round off an excellent weekend. View |
