Adventure Training in the Lake District

Ben Bradford : April 18, 2011 9:11 am : Hill Walking, Instruction, Navigation Training

We had a great week in the Lake District on the annual “Adventure Training” week with the local CCF.

Some fine, and not so fine weather! The three day expedition was very damp but good fun anyway.

Summer Moorland Leader Training – Dartmoor

Ben Bradford : December 12, 2010 8:45 pm : Hill Walking, Navigation Training

Just had a great weekend on Dartmoor running a “Summer Moorland Leader” training course. Not exactly summer conditions, it’s been really cold but it was dry and everyone had a good time.

I was freelancing for Devon Discovery, who organise the training and assessments for the scheme.

Summer Moorland Leader Assesment

Ben Bradford : November 13, 2010 6:40 pm : Guiding/Instruction, Hill Walking, Navigation Training

Just spent a good day on Dartmoor running a “Summer Moorland Leader assessment course”. We had a dry day which was a bit of a miracle considering all the wet weather last week.

Navigation Assesment on Dartmoor

The ground was saturated though which meant some interesting discussions on river crossings along the way.
We spent the day mainly looking at navigation techniques as well as various scenarios, such as rescues, group management etc.

We headed out from two bridges, north towards Crow Tor and back around past Beardown farm.
The course is provided by Devon County Council, I was working for the Dartmoor Centres, based up on the Moor.
