Prepare for your Alpine trip with our training course on Dartmoor, Devon

A one day course designed to prepare you with some solid skills if your heading to the Alps for a summer trip.

Especially suited to ascents such as the Matterhorn, Eiger and other AD ridge climbs. This is a highly practical course, and tailored to your ability and ambitions. We concentrate on basic ropework and movement skills on rocky terrain.

Based on Dartmoor in Devon, we use the Dewerstone Rock Climbing area which has a number of very good climbs to practice “big boot” climbing skills as well as some easier scrambling routes, both in ascent and descent...

Meeting point:

Shaugh Prior car park at 8.30. Google map link here. After an introduction talk and gear check we get right down to business, the first scramble is a short walk from the car park and takes us to the “summit” of the Dewerstone. Then it’s a downhill walk/scramble to the first rock climbing area.

2017 Alpine Preparation course prices

These courses are run on a bespoke basis, contact us to discuss dates and questions. We recommend a maximum ratio of 2 people to one instructor, but larger group sizes can be arranged on request.

  • One person – £140 per day
  • Two people – £80 pp per day

Prices include ropes and safety equipment such as helmets and harness’s. The full payment is due if booking within 30 days of the course. You’ll need to bring a small rucksack, waterproofs and a packed lunch.

Booking & Enquiry Process

• Browse the scheduled trips above and click View Details to check dates, guide ratios, and indicative pricing.

• Depending on the trip, you can enquire about your preferred dates (so we can confirm suitability and availability) or book online with a deposit (with the balance due six weeks before departure).

• Each participant reads our Terms & Conditions and completes a short medical form (sent by email).

• Once confirmed, final meeting details and logistics are sent out ten days before your trip.
