Description:

This three day training course will give you a solid introduction to alpine style climbing techniques such as crevasse rescue, glacial travel and basic ridge rope work.

The trip is based from Chamonix and we climb from the SkyWay lift in Italy as well as the Aiguille du Midi. This is a training course, so there are no big climbs planned but plenty of time for questions and practice.

This is our typical itinerary, but we adapt the course depending on weather, conditions, season and participants. Staying flexible is important when you’re mountaineering!

  • Day 1: Ecole du Glace – ice school! We use the Montenvers railway to access the Mer de Glace where we can find some good steep ice for crampon skills, different climbing techniques, ice screw placement, and an intro to crevasse rescue. Return to Chamonix for the night (accommodation not included)
  • Day 2: Now we head off for a two day trip, using one of the huts in the local area, depending on conditions and time of season. Typically we use the Torino hut on the Italian border or the Albert premier refuge. Both have access to great alpine terrain where we can practice and learn different alpine techniques. On this day we typically run through a full crevasse rescue session. Night in hut included.
  • Day3: Now we try and put everything together, with an early start from the hut, route finding, glacial travel, alpine scrambling and a summit! Returning to the hut early afternoon we pick up any equipment left there and make our way back to Chamonix.

Price includes guiding fees, guides expenses and one night in mountain hut half board.

Price excludes:

You will need to cover your lift passes, any equipment hire, extra’s at the hut such as lunches, snacks etc.

This trip requires three climbers to run.
